Procedure

Beoordeel de wond, reinig en droog deze. Kies het juiste kompres en breng aan; fixeer vervolgens met een fixatieverband, kleefpleister of wondverband. Vervangen wanneer verzadigd.

  • Desinfecteer de handen en trek wegwerphandschoenen aan.
  • Reinig de wond en breng het kompres aan.
  • Vermijd indien mogelijk contact met steriele wonden; fixeer op schone wijze.
  • Regelmatige visuele controle en verbandwissel.

Alleen fixeren op een intacte huid; gebruik huidvriendelijke fixatie voor de gevoelige huid. Bewaar kompressen droog, schoon en beschermd tegen licht. What is the difference between non-woven swabs and gauze compresses?
Non-woven swabs (Vlieskompressen) are made from viscose/polyester blends using a non-woven bonding process, making them softer, more absorbent, and lint-free compared to traditional woven gauze compresses. They conform better to body contours and are less likely to leave fibers in the wound bed.
Can MaiMed non-woven swabs be sterilized?
Yes. Although these compresses come non-sterile, they can be sterilized using moist heat (autoclaving) before use when aseptic application is required. Only sterilize compresses from undamaged, unopened packages.
What sizes are available for MaiMed non-woven swabs?
MaiMed non-woven swabs are available in two sizes: 10 x 10 cm (ideal for smaller wounds and daily dressing changes) and 10 x 20 cm (suitable for larger wound areas and abdominal dressings). Both versions are 4-ply and come in packs of 100 pieces.
Are these compresses suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. MaiMed non-woven swabs are specifically designed to be skin-friendly. The soft viscose/polyester blend minimizes irritation, and the chlorine-free bleaching process ensures the material is gentle on sensitive and damaged skin.
How should I store non-woven swabs?
Store the compresses in a dry, clean, and light-protected environment at room temperature. Always check that the packaging is intact before use. Opened packs should be closed properly and used within a reasonable timeframe.
What does 4-ply mean for non-woven swabs?
4-ply (4-fach) means the non-woven material is folded four layers thick. This provides a good balance of absorbency and flexibility — thick enough to absorb wound exudate effectively, yet thin enough to conform comfortably to the wound area. For higher absorbency needs, 6-ply versions are also available.

After placing the compress on the wound, secure it with a fixation bandage, adhesive strips, or a tubular bandage. Avoid applying adhesive fixation directly on damaged or irritated skin. For sensitive skin, use hypoallergenic fixation tape. Check the dressing regularly and replace immediately when soaked through.
